Christobel Selecky is an innovative and accomplished chief executive, entrepreneur, and board member with more than 30 years experience in the health care industry including co-founding and growing a venture backed, market leading disease management company from start-up to $130 million in revenues and leading a $2 billion business unit of a publicly traded managed care organization.
She serves on for-profit and non-profit healthcare boards and provides strategic consulting and advice to management teams and investors currently in or seeking to enter the healthcare field focusing on strategy and business plan development, disease and care management program development, market positioning, public policy analysis and strategy, and CEO/Senior Management advising.
Chris Selecky currently serves on the Boards of Directors of American Specialty Health, a national provider of population health management programs including prevention and wellness, fitness and exercise, and specialty network management services; and National Healthcare Services, the venture capital arm of Memorial Healthcare Services, a preeminent, non-profit healthcare system located in Southern California.
Chris most recently served as President, CEO, Chairman, and member of the Board of Directors of LifeMasters Supported SelfCare which she led from 1996 until 2009. Under her leadership, LifeMasters raised more than $60 million in venture capital, grew to $130 million in annual revenues, employed more than 1,200 people in seven locations, provided care and disease management services to more than one million program participants nationwide, won numerous industry awards, and counted some of the largest and most well-respected health plans, employers, provider groups, labor unions, and government entities as its clients.
A veteran in the field of managed health care, her career began at FHP International Corporation in the early 1980s, when FHP was an entrepreneurial, privately held staff-model HMO. While at FHP, Chris held several management positions during their rapid expansion. As president of the FHP California Health Plan, she was responsible for revenues of $2.4 billion and building a customer base of nearly one million Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, and Commercial HMO and PPO members statewide. She has also served on the boards of both the California and New Mexico HMO Associations and The Medical Quality Commission.
Chris has been instrumental in driving the growth of the population health improvement industry through her leadership role with the Care Continuum Alliance (formerly the Disease Management Association of America). Recently reelected to its Board of Directors, she previously served for two terms as the organization’s Chairman of the Board, and also was chair of its Executive, Strategic Planning, Conference Program, and Government Affairs Committees. She also serves on the national Board of Trustees of United Cerebral Palsy.
Chris is a frequent speaker on the topics of population health improvement and disease management, the future of managed health care, privacy issues, and health care technology, and has been invited to testify before Congress on several occasions regarding care coordination for Medicare and Medicaid populations. Selecky received a Masters Degree in Public Communication from the S.I. Newhouse School of Communications at Syracuse University and a B.A. with high honors in Political Science and Philosophy from the University of Delaware.
